Code of Conduct


  1. To abide by the aims and objectives of the Association as laid down by the Constitution and Mission Statement of the Association.
  2. Breed only with horses on the Breeding Registry and aim towards improvement and achieving skeletal soundness, muscle correctness and good temperament.
  3. Foals to be inoculated at not less than 6 months of age on leaving the breeder. The foal must be in possession of a SAQHA registration certificate issued by SA Stud Book. Every effort is to be made to find suitable owners that will promote the breed.
  4. Breeders to ensure all foals are registered and DNA tested. Breeders to ensure that all transfers applications, of horses sold, to be forwarded to the registration authority.
  5. Breeders to avoid the following practices, considered to be detrimental to the physical and mental development of the breed:
    1. Mating between parents / offspring, brother / sister or half brother / sister.
    2. A mating which results in any one ancestor appearing more that 4 times in the 5 generations pedigree of the offspring.
    3. Line breeding without the consent of the board of directors. The approval will have a condition that the offspring be retained by the breeder and will not be for sale unless conditions above are met.
    4. Mating a filly before she is at least well grown and matured (generally +- 3 years old) and on a rising plane condition.
    5. Not complying with the DNA agreement with the breeders as a whole.

  3. TO CONDUCT ALL BUSINESS AFFAIRS WITH INTEGRITY, SINCERITY AND ACCURACY IN AN OPEN, FORTHRIGHT MANNER.
  4. TO HANDLE BREEDING OPERATION AND BUSINESS DEALINGS IN A MANNER WHICH PROMOTES THE IMAGE OF THE AMERICAN QUARTER HORSE AND INSTILLS CONFIDENCE IN THE INDUSTRY.
